A Trainee Counsellor wrote to me | Stephen Hedger

This person wanted to thank me, they are not a client and I’ve never met them.

They had been following the advice I share through this FREE marriage blog and wanted to comment.

This is what they wrote:

Dear Stephen,

I just wanted to let you know what a positive impact you have had on me and my marriage. I read your posts and have really taken on board what you are saying. I now view my marriage as within my gift to improve so look to myself on how to connect better rather than having expectations on my husband’s side.

We have been together since we were 16 and married for 26 years. We are just about to move house which was testing for us as our children have left home and this could have been a junction where we took separate paths. We are best friends and lovers and are excited to build a new home together.

I am so grateful for your posts and really appreciate the difference you have made to our lives.

In a short phone conversation, Stephen was able to quickly get to the heart of what the real issue was in our marriage – and why in almost a year of working on our marriage including 10 weeks of marriage counselling through a relationship therapy organisation, we weren’t really making any progress. I found Stephen to be extremely perceptive, as well as empathetic to our situation, while being able to quickly pinpoint the real sticking point in our marriage.
